The most recent draw targeted specific candidates. If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles. The CRS score distribution of candidates in the pool is as of July 19, 2026.

How the Rounds Work

The immigration system follows a strict process for every draw. Officials complete four steps to issue invitations.

1. We choose the type of round we’ll hold.
2. We decide the number of candidates we need to invite.
3. We identify the highest-ranking candidates from the pool who are eligible for the chosen round type.
4. We invite these candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Types of Rounds of Invitations

The government holds different types of rounds of invitations throughout the year. You must be eligible for one of the three programs managed through Express Entry to be placed in the pool.

General Rounds of Invitations

We invite top-ranking candidates in the pool who are eligible for one of the three programs managed through Express Entry.

Program-Specific Rounds of Invitations

We invite top-ranking candidates who are eligible for a specific Express Entry program. For example, a round specifically for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) only invites candidates eligible for the PNP.

Category-Based Rounds of Invitations

The Minister establishes a category to meet a specific economic goal. We then invite top-ranking candidates in the pool who are eligible for this category.

Candidates with a Provincial or Territorial Nomination

We’ll continue to invite candidates with a provincial or territorial nomination through general and Provincial Nominee Program-specific rounds.

What the Data Tells Us

Four invitations is the smallest Express Entry round on record, and that is the story of this draw. This was the first ever selection under the Skilled Military Recruits category, so IRCC was opening a channel rather than filling one.

The 368 cut-off is the lowest of any 2026 round, but it should not be read as a sign that scores are falling. In a category this narrow, the cut-off simply reflects how few eligible candidates were in the pool, not how competitive the system has become.

The tie-breaking timestamp of June 2, 2026 still applied even at this size. Anyone sitting exactly at 368 was invited only if their profile predated that moment.

The practical takeaway is that eligibility matters more than score in category-based rounds. A candidate who qualifies for a narrow category can be invited at a score that would be far out of reach in any general or program-specific round.

For everyone else, this round changes nothing about strategy. CEC, French-language, and provincial nomination remain the realistic routes, and a first-of-its-kind category with four invitations is not yet a pathway to plan around.
